Daufuskie Island Independent School is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tennille Scheriff as Founding Principal.
Coming to Daufuskie Island Independent School from The American Embassy School in New Delhi, India, Dr. Scheriff brings with her a diverse background in the field of education. With over 25 years of experience, she has held various roles that have contributed to her expertise and understanding of effective teaching and leadership practices.
Throughout her career, Dr. Scheriff has worked as a classroom teacher, literacy specialist, mentor coordinator, instructional coach and university professor. These varied positions have provided her with a deep understanding of different aspects of education, allowing her to bring a well-rounded perspective to her role as a middle school principal.
During her 17 years of service in the Beaufort County School district, Dr. Scheriff gained valuable experience working within the local educational community. Elected as BCSD 2010-2011 Teacher of the Year, Tennille was the chairperson of the district Teacher Forum. Her international experience includes private international schools in Thailand and India where she worked on literacy, curriculum development and in administration. She has been a guest speaker at multiple international curriculum conferences. These experiences have provided her with a global perspective on education and a broad understanding of diverse cultures and educational systems.
Dr. Scheriff’s educational credentials include a Doctorate in Curriculum from Liberty University in Virginia, a Master’s degree in Education from Coe College in Iowa, and a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Iowa. In addition, she has earned National Board Certification and is certified to teach in grades PreK-12. Passionate about building strong relationships within the school and the larger community, Dr. Scheriff believes in the power of collaboration and teamwork to create a positive learning environment. She is dedicated to implementing high-quality teaching and instructional leadership practices that have a direct impact on student learning outcomes.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Scheriff has a variety of hobbies and interests. She enjoys trekking, traveling, cooking, reading, and participating in various sports. She considers herself a foodie, highlighting her love for exploring different cuisines and culinary experiences.
With her extensive experience, educational expertise, passion for education, and love of Daufuskie, Daufuskie Island Independent School could not be more excited to have Dr. Tennille Scheriff as DIIS’s founding principal and to join in creating access to a quality and unique education for the youth of the island and its surrounding areas. We are confident she will make a positive difference in the lives of students, teachers and the community.
