Daufuskie Island Conservancy Sponsors DIIS’s Spring Marine Science Series & GIS Project

Daufuskie Island Independent School is pleased to announce Daufuskie Island Conservancy as the sponsor of our Spring Marine Science Series and Class: “What is Happening to Daufuskie’s Shoreline?” As a culmination of the learning students have been doing this year on the physical characteristics of the ocean, students will have visits from coastal environmental specialists to introduce them to initiatives and tools currently being used to monitor and inform decision making processes. Students will engage in an 8-week GIS Research unit which will cover GIS technology, the technical pieces of how to use it, and what it can help us understand about Daufuskie’s shoreline overtime specifically.

Our Spring Marine Science Series and Class will be open to the general public to join as well. More information and dates are forthcoming. DIIS is so grateful for Daufuskie Island Conservancy’s support and help in developing environmental stewards of our beautiful island!
